MESOX’s RescuePatch Takes Centre Stage in UK’s Fight Against Drug Overdose Deaths

MESOX has been selected as a key participant in the UK government’s Reducing Drug Deaths Innovation Challenge Phase 1 SBRI programme. Its innovative RescuePatch project, a groundbreaking transdermal patch designed to combat fatal drug overdoses, has been recognized as a standout among the 11 selected projects.

RescuePatch is a unique, controlled-release combination patch that delivers both naloxone and flumazenil, antidotes for opioid and benzodiazepine overdoses, respectively. Developed by MESOX, this solution addresses a critical gap in emergency response by empowering anyone, even without medical training, to administer life-saving antidote treatments.

This recognition underscores MESOX’s dedication to leveraging advanced technology to tackle the urgent public health crisis of drug-related deaths.

In January 2021, the Scottish Government announced a National Mission on Drugs. The aim of the national mission is to reduce drug deaths and improve the lives of those impacted by drugs in a programme of work supported by the Drug Deaths Taskforce and the National Mission on Drugs plan. The demand-signalling work of the Chief Scientist Office innovation team, based on the Care and Wellbeing Programme, identified tackling drug-related deaths as a key priority area for innovation in NHS Scotland.

By advancing projects like RescuePatch, MESOX in collaboration with NHS Fife in Scotland continues to make significant strides in addressing some of the most pressing healthcare challenges, demonstrating its commitment to improving patient outcomes and saving lives.
